Lifestyle Balance

Independent Financial Advisers or IFAs or Lifestyle Financial Planners who are professionals that offer independent advice on financial matters to their clients and recommend suitable financial products from the whole of the market. We listen to you on all areas including many matters such as investment, retirement planning, insurance, protection and mortgages (or other loans). IFAs also advise on some tax and legal matters.

Today we want you to think about what life balance is for you personally. You may already know that you need more balance in your life but getting there on your own seems overwhelming. By meeting with a Lifestyle Financial Planner (LFP), you will be able to talk about what your goals and aspirations are and how you can achieve them. A LFP will look at your current position and be able to work with you to fit your goals into your life and help you to see the opportunities to add balance.

Step 1: What does a balanced lifestyle look like?

A balanced lifestyle looks different for everyone because we are all unique and what works for one person may not work for another. It means adjusting your life so that you are not obsessive on one thing such as work but that you have a balance, physically, emotionally and spiritually, ultimately, leading you to a happier and more fulfilling life.

When you start working with a (LFP) they may ask you to consider the following areas of your life to start moving towards balance:

  • Be positive - A right mental attitude is essential, living a balanced life means having an active, balanced mindset. This may not come naturally to you; however, you can practice creating a balanced attitude through self-discovery, exercise and working with a LFP. Eventually, all the work will pay off, and you will start seeing the entire world in a new light and will start making decisions that support your new balanced lifestyle.
  • Expect the unexpected - just when we think everything is going great, life throws a spanner in the works. Rather than getting upset or stressed about things, learn to accept that catastrophes can and sometimes will happen at any time or when you least expect them. Over time you will feel more confident knowing that you can just adjust your plans to accommodate for these challenges and still succeed.
  • Know your priorities - every part of your life (social, work, passion, family, health and finances) requires a different amount of time and attention. Balance is not about cramming in every activity possible; it is about shifting your focus to what is most important at the time without neglecting other areas of your life. This will look different for everyone depending on where you are in your life. A LFP can help you identify what your priorities are and assist you in planning your time accordingly.
  • Core belief - without foundations you cannot build a house and expect it to stand. It is the same for goals if you do not have a foundation then you do not have anything to build upon. Talking through your situation with a LFP is an excellent way to discover your deepest beliefs and start building a life around them.
  • Self-care - You are never going to achieve the life you dream of if you are unhealthy and burning the candle at both ends. Think about ways in which you can look after yourself better and make time for things that make you feel rejuvenated and energised.

Step 2: Getting balance in your life.

A Lifestyle Financial Planner or personal financial planner is a professional who prepares financial plans for people. These financial plans often cover cash flow management, retirement planning, investment planning, financial risk management, insurance planning, tax planning, estate planning and business succession planning (for business owners).

As we have discussed above living a balanced life means deciding what's important to you and then spending your time and energy in those areas. What in your life is deserving of your time, energy and money?

Spend time reflecting on your life goals, beliefs and aspirations. Think about what you want more of in your life and which things have an adverse impact on you. If you frequently visit the gym just because you think you should and realise you are not enjoying it, then give it up. Use that time to do something that will lift you up instead.

You have to cross the line to make a change. There is no time like the present to make the journey of recreating a new balanced lifestyle. Nobody said it would be easy but failing to plan is planning to fail. Come and talk it through with one of our LFPs, we can help you apply everything you have discovered about yourself to achieve the balance that will allow you to have the lifestyle you desire.

Getting a balance to your life nourishes your soul, it creates an appeasement of the mind creating a blueprint destination plan for life! When you are living with balance in your life, you are living in peace and harmony every day.
